Nourou
There is a world we belong to, and another we imagine for ourselves. Somewhere between the two, we begin to discover who we are.
Life unfolds through encounters, movement and the constant desire to create. Days are filled with possibilities, even when the future remains uncertain. There is beauty in what is familiar, but also a curiosity for what lies beyond.
This ongoing series follows Nourou, a young Senegalese artist living in Dakar and working between photography, film and fashion, through fragments of a life still taking shape. Between intimacy and ambition, belonging and distance, confidence and uncertainty.
He is part of a generation imagining other ways of living and finding freedom within the everyday. Yet the freedom to imagine is not always the freedom to go. For many young people in Senegal, visas and restrictions can turn the desire to discover the world into something distant: what for some is an ordinary possibility, for others remains a dream.
There is no single direction in becoming who we are. We change, hesitate, begin again. Sometimes we feel rooted in a place, sometimes drawn towards somewhere we have never been.
The desire to leave does not always mean wanting to escape. Sometimes it is simply the need to discover what else is possible, to experience the unfamiliar, to see ourselves differently.
Not a search for another life, but an attempt to live this one fully.
To remain open to the world, even when the world is not always open to us.
